Sports in Uganda has continued to show signs of development especially in human resource as more local administrators land positions at international sports organization bodies.

The latest is Hussein Kalule, the Uganda Ludo federation (ULF) President, who was last week elected as the Vice President of International Ludo Federation (ILF).

Despite minimal funding from government and less attraction to corporate sponsorship, Kalule has braved to see the sport thrive.

He has been at the helm of ULF for the last five years –two after the change of name from Uganda Ludo Association to Uganda Ludo Federation.

Kalule, who will travel to New Delhi, India at the ILF offices early next January to be sworn-in during the ILF general assembly, said that becoming the ILF Vice president will help him share the massive experience he has in the administration of the sport.

“I want us as the ILF Executive committee to amplify the quest for Ludo to be recognized as an Olympic sport by International Olympic Committee (IOC), increase on the number of international tournaments, improve on the ILF communication and also help country federations to get affiliation to their respective country sports regulatory bodies,” noted Kalule, who also wants to spearhead the creation of an African body.

Eighteen (18) countries with two delegates from each voted online with Uganda represented by Kalule and Gorge Ssebanenya, the ULF publicity secretary.

Kalule got 30 votes while Muhammed Usama of Pakistan got 6 while for presidency, Rupka Debroy of India lost to Tariq Javed Ali (8) of Pakistan (28).

Matheta Joe from South Africa was unopposed while Ravi Singh (28) from India beat Elnar Jensen (8) from Denmark for the post of Communication Secretary.

The position of Chairperson technical together with African, European and American representatives will be elected after the January assembly.
