The Uganda Premier League’s (UPL) Matchday 9 wraps up today with two critical fixtures, as SC Villa hosts Wakiso Giants at Wankulukuku and Mbarara City faces Mbale Heroes at Kakyeka Stadium.
Reigning champions SC Villa find themselves in unfamiliar territory, with only one win in their last five outings.
Sitting on 11 points, Morley Byekwaso’s side is struggling to keep pace with league leaders Vipers SC, who have amassed 20 points.
With their title defense hopes hanging in the balance, Villa cannot afford another misstep.
Their opponents, Wakiso Giants, are faring no better. Steven Bengo’s side is winless in five games, having failed to score during that stretch while managing only two clean sheets.
Currently two points behind Villa, Wakiso has a chance to leapfrog their hosts with a rare away victory.
Meanwhile, at Kakyeka Stadium, Mbarara City is desperate to climb out of the relegation zone as they face bottom-placed Mbale Heroes.
The Ankole Lions, under coach Asaph Mwebaze, have yet to record a win this season and languish in the bottom three with just four points. A win today could significantly boost their survival hopes.
Mbale Heroes, however, are equally determined to snatch points, as they sit at the bottom of the table with five points.
