SC Villa stormed back into form with a commanding 6-1 victory over Wakiso Giants in a Uganda Premier League (UPL) clash at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, on Saturday.
Goals from Charles Lwanga (brace), Patrick Kakande, Hakim Kiwanuka, Reagan Mpande, and David Owori sealed the deal for coach Morley Byekwaso’s side, while Marvin Oshaba netted Wakiso’s consolation from the penalty spot.
This emphatic win lifted Villa to fourth place on the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table with 14 points, six behind league leaders Vipers SC.
Meanwhile, Wakiso Giants remain precariously perched just above the relegation zone with nine points after suffering their fourth loss of the campaign.
Villa had entered the game seeking redemption after a narrow 1-0 defeat to rivals Express FC in their previous outing.
They wasted no time asserting dominance, with Lwanga opening the scoring in the 14th minute off a precise Reagan Mpande assist.
Kakande doubled the lead in the 32nd minute, showcasing brilliant individual skill to beat his marker and curl the ball into the top corner.
Byekwaso’s decision to introduce Hakim Kiwanuka at halftime paid immediate dividends, as the forward slotted home Villa’s third goal just seven minutes into the second half.
Wakiso responded with a penalty converted by Oshaba after a handball by Simon Ssemayange in the box, but that was as good as it got for Steven Bengo’s side.
Lwanga notched his second goal in the 64th minute, assisted by the standout Kakande, before Mpande added a fifth in the 77th minute.
Owori capped off the night with a deflected long-range strike in the 86th minute, sealing Villa’s biggest win of the season.
In another fixture, Mbarara City edged out bottom-placed Mbale Heroes 1-0 at Kakyeka Stadium. Joseph Akandwanaho’s solitary goal secured Mbarara’s third win of the season, moving them to 10th place with 12 points.
Mbale Heroes, on the other hand, remain at the foot of the table with just five points.
