South Africa’s junior golfers (boys and girls) are destined for victory in the 2023 All Africa Junior Team Championship (AAJTC) that winds down today, 20th April at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, Kigo.
The Junior Proteas who are the defending champions in both categories have huge leads heading into day four and are just hours away from a very likely victory should weather conditions allow play to be completed.
South Africa’s boys team has a team gross score of 637, a whooping 72 shots ahead of second placed Zimbabwe who have 709. Egypt cap the day three podium with 713 whilst hosts Uganda are tied for fourth with Zambia on 714. The best three scores for the boys are considered for each round.
The Protea girls are dominating proceedings in their category and boost of a team gross score of 444 and just like their boys, they too have subjected Zimbabwe to a bride’s maid role, leading them by 32 points. Kenya cap the podium with 503 with Uganda coming fourth with 517. The best 2 scores per day count for the girls.
Jack Buchanan and Amilkar Bhana both shot 2-under par 70 for South Africa’s boys team in the second last round with Jaden Deltel returning 1-under par 71.
For Uganda’s boys team, Juma Abiti, shot 4-over par 76 and was the best for the day. Abdul Kakeeto shot 81 while skipper Reagan Joseph Akena had 85.
For the Protea girls, Jasmine Furstenburg led the side on day three with 75 while GolfRSA’s No-1 Kyra van Kan shot 76 just like Zanè Kleynhans.
For Ugandan girls Winnie Musuya returned the best score of 86 with Frista Birabwa coming second with 91.
The All Africa Junior Team Championship is one of the premier events on the African continent’s annual schedule, as it serves as the African Qualifier for the prestigious Toyota Junior Golf World Cup, which will be held later this year in Japan.
