The highly anticipated 2025 edition of the Captain’s Bell Tournament returns to the Uganda Golf Club in Kitante from 15 to 17 May, with Absa Bank Uganda renewing its sponsorship for the seventh year running, this time committing UGX 179 million to the event.

A cherished annual tradition, the Captain’s Bell Tournament officially introduces the Club’s new management team to members under the stewardship of the Captain.

This year’s edition promises thrilling competition, camaraderie, and celebration, with a UGX 20 million professional cash prize sponsored by Absa up for grabs.

“Golf has a special way of bringing people together, building friendships, and challenging us to be our best selves on and off the course,” said Michael Segwaya, Chief Finance Officer at Absa Bank Uganda. “At Absa, we believe in the power of sport to inspire and connect communities. We are proud to continue playing a role in writing the story of golf in Uganda.”

Captain of the Uganda Golf Club, Paul Charles Rukundo, praised the partnership and reflected on the legacy of the tournament. “For over 70 years, the Captain’s Bell Tournament has united exceptional players, colleagues, and friends. Our community has flourished through the unwavering support of partners like Absa Bank Uganda, whose dedication to advancing golf in Uganda is truly appreciated.”

Absa Bank Uganda has been instrumental in supporting the sport beyond the Captain’s Bell Tournament. The bank has facilitated international exposure for Ugandan golfers, particularly through the Magical Kenya Open, part of the European Golf Tour, over the past four years.

Receiving the sponsorship, Captain Rukundo emphasized the importance of such collaborations: “We are grateful for the continued support from our longtime partner, Absa Bank Uganda. Their contribution is essential to ensuring the successful hosting of this tournament and for nurturing golf talent in Uganda.”

The 2025 Captain’s Bell Tournament is poised to be another milestone for Absa Bank Uganda in promoting community spirit, talent development, and passion for golf across the country.
