Uganda has so far had a disastrous campaign in the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers picking just one point from the opening three games in Group F, something that has left them at the rock bottom of the radar.
For the Mulitin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic coached side, the remaining games are all crucial if qualification is to be achieved and basically, the Cranes must win all their matches and hope that circumstances favor them in the other games of the same group.
The reverse fixture against Tanzania on Tuesday at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium is a make or break for the Cranes. Uganda lost the previous game 0-1 in Egypt last week.
Coach Micho is fully aware of what is at stake and he thinks his charges have put the loss on Friday last week behind them and ready to open a new chapter.
‘One detail can take you to hell and the other can take you to heaven and that is what happened in the last match. We now have chance for redemption in this game and we are coming here to fight for maximum points,” Micho told FUFA media.
“I have full trust in the players and they know how crucial this game is and are hoping for positive results,” Micho added.
Captain Emmanuel Okwi has no love lost for the Tanzanian people with majority of the players for Taifa Stars his close friends.
“I have always had love from the people of Tanana. Many of the players have been my teammates or opponents when I played here. The friendship will always stay but during the game, we will all be fighting to make our countries proud,” Okwi said.
Gavin Kizito and Steven Ssrwadda are ruled out of the game due to injuries.
In the same group, Algeria beat Niger 1-0 on Friday.
