After T20 World Cup, Brian Masaba honored at Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards

The Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards for June 2024 spotlighted the exceptional achievements of Uganda’s finest athletes, with a special focus on cricket.

Former Cricket Cranes T20 skipper Brian Masaba was honored as the top cricketer, a recognition of his remarkable leadership and performance.

Brian Masaba’s award comes on the heels of an outstanding month in which he led the Cricket Cranes to their first-ever T20 World Cup appearance in the West Indies. Masaba’s strategic brilliance and resilience were pivotal as he guided his team through a challenging tournament.

Under Masaba’s captaincy, the Cricket Cranes secured a memorable victory against Papua New Guinea, their first win in the T20 World Cup. His leadership was instrumental in this achievement, which stands as a landmark moment for Ugandan cricket on the international stage.

Key contributions and recognition

Throughout the T20 World Cup, Masaba’s individual performance was exceptional. He took five wickets, demonstrating his prowess and consistency. His ability to perform under pressure and inspire his teammates was a key factor in the Cricket Cranes finishing fourth in Group C, earning $256,000 in prize money. This accomplishment not only elevated the profile of Ugandan cricket but also brought significant financial support to the sport’s development in the country.

At the Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards ceremony, Masaba’s contributions were celebrated. He was honored as the best cricketer for June 2024, a testament to his hard work, dedication, and impact on the game. The award acknowledges Masaba’s leadership qualities and his role in bringing Ugandan cricket to new heights.

Boxing: Joshua Nyanzi

Joshua Nyanzi emerged victorious in the boxing category, securing the National Welterweight title by unanimous decision after defeating Mubarak Seguya at Club Obligato in Kampala. Nyanzi’s win showcased his prowess and determination in the ring, earning him the prestigious award.

Basketball: Modesta Anyango

In basketball, Modesta Anyango of the Junior Gazelles was honored for her outstanding performance at the FIBA U18 Zone V Qualifiers in Lugogo. Anyango was named MVP as the Junior Gazelles dominated the competition, including a decisive 82-52 victory over Rwanda. Her leadership and skills on the court were pivotal in her team’s success.

Football: Elio Capradossi

Elio Capradossi, a calm and composed defender for the Uganda Cranes, was recognized in the football category. Capradossi’s exceptional defensive play was instrumental in Uganda’s 1-0 victory against Botswana in a FIFA World Cup qualifier at Namboole. His ability to maintain a solid defense and secure a clean sheet was key to the Cranes’ success.
