AIBA coaching course underway in Kampala

Twenty five (25) Coaches are taking part in the International boxing federation (AIBA) Star 1 boxing coaching course that commenced on Tuesday, July 16 at the Kati Kati restaurant, Lugogo in Kampala.

The course that runs till July 23 has Ghana’s Star 3 instructor Asare Ofori as the main instructor. During the official opening of the week-long course, Uganda boxing federation (UBF) President Moses Muhangi said that the course will help equip Uganda’s boxing coaches with new modern methods of training and fighting techniques.

“It is very expensive to host such courses yet it is even more expensive to send coaches to pursue them from aboard. That is why we had to fight hard to host the course here in Kampala. A minimum of 25 participants are required by AIBA for such courses to be granted. The participants will be examined and certified as Star 1 coaches by AIBA upon successful completion of the course,” explained Muhangi.

“We have very few technically trained coaches; only that Uganda is blessed with talent that is why we bring medals. We need more AIBA certified coaches and international referees and judges. After this course trained coaches will be able to coach anywhere in the world and will also pass on the knowledge acquired. We also hope to host an AIBA referees and judges course soon so that we can improve on our boxing officiating,” added Muhangi, who urged government to support the boxing federation to train more human resource in order to make the country’s golden sport great again.

The coaches in attendance national team coach (Bombers) Sam Kabugo as Luganda translator for better understanding.

Muhangi believes that some people initially failed or never enrolled for these coaching courses due to English language disadvantage.

List of coaches:
Abubaker Kato, Mercy Mukankusi, Abdu Kabuye, Twaibu Mayanja, Shakira Mohamed, Hassan Khalil Mukungu, Yaada Ibrahim, Denish Mulindra, Gilbert Mitala, Charles Kasumba, Bast Mutyaba, Hassan Abdul, Richard Ssekandi, Herbert Kalungi, Yusuf Kityo, Kyembe Henry, Joseph Ssemambo, Dan Kasole, Abu Kimpi, Moses Ssali Ssentongo, Dickson Muhairwe, Innocent Omony, Abdul Sebunya, Aujo Judith Onoria, Ibrahim Ssozi.
