Airtel-Uganda has re-echoed its commitment to support sports in Uganda with the company’s Managing Director V.G Somasekhar also assuring the new Uganda Cranes head coach that the leading 4G network telecommunication is committed to seeing Uganda Cranes success and sports as a whole. Somasekhar made the pledge on Tuesday while meeting with the Uganda Cranes and Kobs new coach Jonathan Mckinstry in company of top FUFA officials at the Airtel-Uganda head offices in Kampala.

This commitment comes at the heels of the just concluded nationwide Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) U17 boys and girls football tournament and the ongoing Airtel-Masaza Cup whose final is scheduled for 26th October at Namboole stadium with Bulemezi taking on Busiro after Buddu takes on Kyadondo in

the third place play-off. Somasekhar welcomed the new coach and wished him the best. “Airtel-Uganda welcomes Mr. Mckinstry to Uganda and we wish him all the best as he seeks to build on the recent successes of the Uganda Cranes as well as contribute to the development of football in the country.

We will continue to provide all the necessary support to ensure that our sport grows further and we achieve more internationally,” he said. Mckinstry, who was unveiled by FIFA on Monday on a three-year deal, promised to build on previous achievements and to work closely with Airtel-Uganda to ensure the growth of youth football in Uganda.

The Irishman who started work witheffect from October 1 also attended the StarTimes Uganda premier league game as Proline thumped Express 2-1 at the StarTimes stadium, Lugogo with Nordin Bunjo and Mustafa Mujjuzi scoring for the Matia Lule side while Dian Galiwango also registered his first of the season but only turning out a consolation for the struggling Red Eagles.
