Event: Kasese Junior Golf Open
Date: Saturday, 11th December 2021
Venue: Kilembe Mines Golf Club

Following a successful inaugural edition held last in November year, the second staging of the Kasese Junior Golf Open will be played on Saturday, 11th December at the par-73 Kilembe Mines Golf Club.

The event will be played by players aged between 6-18 years but split into four categories, that is; A (15-18 years and handicap 28 or lower), B (13-14 years and handicap 28 or lower), C (8-12 years and open to all) and D (6-7 years and open to all).

Event organizer, Habib Kissande who’s organizing the showpiece through the brand HABIB KISSANDE GOLF says that all is set for Juniors to display their game in a tournament that will be held with Covid-19 SOPs in place.

“Everything is in place for the juniors to play. The course is playable for the children to enjoy their game on Saturday,” Kissande said adding that by press time (Thursday afternoon) 63 players had registered though the projected number is 80.

Players from Kilembe Mines Golf Club (host club), Entebbe Golf Club, Tooro Golf Club and Mbarara Golf Club will be in the mix.

A couple of prizes are up for grabs notably scholastic materials related including TVs for home learning and the like.

Proceeds of this tournament will be used to support and promote the “GOLF AS A WAY OF LEARNING” Project, a golf development initiative.

“This unique venture is a non-profit youth athletic initiative of the Kilembe Mines Golf Club to benefit aspiring young golfers in Kasese while also promoting the sport of golf in Uganda. Using the game of golf in support of an academic curriculum is a proven success. Financial sponsorships for golf supplies and training equipment; educational school materials; and student scholarships are needed,” Kissande noted adding that the project has been running since 2016.

The tournament sponsors are; Agri Evolve Uganda Limited, GEMS International, Hellena Foods, J’s Ice Cream and Drinks Spot Kasese, ITECH Technologies Kasese, Rwenzori Community Development Network, Luke Nyakarahuka.

Playing on home course, Hassan Keyi returned 3-under par 70 to win the first edition of the tournament.

The 17-year-old then beat Godfrey Kambale who returned 71, by a stroke to win himself a trophy and a TV set in the one-day tournament that had attracted 73 participants.
