The Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has received a significant boost with the arrival of a major consignment of cricket equipment from its long-standing Australian partners, Bankstown District Cricket Club (BDCC) of New South Wales. The donation reinforces a partnership that has flourished for more than two decades.
The shipment includes essential items such as a turf roller, wicket covers, bats, balls, t-shirts, gloves, helmets, pads, thigh guards, and coaching literature. These items will support grassroots cricket development and enhance training for players, coaches, and officials throughout the country.
The Uganda-Bankstown collaboration began in 2005, following Uganda’s debut at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Dhaka the previous year. The bond has grown steadily, largely thanks to the early involvement of BDCC’s Brian Freedman, who was then a senior administrator with Cricket New South Wales and Cricket Australia.
UCA Chairman Jackson Kavuma expressed deep gratitude:
“This donation is a reminder of how far we’ve come and what strong, lasting partnerships can achieve. We are deeply thankful to Bankstown District CC for walking this journey with us for 20 years and counting. Special praise is reserved for Bankstown Chairman John Murray, who donated a roller. The impact of this latest shipment will be felt not just in the immediate season, but in shaping the game’s future.”
Echoing his remarks, UCA CEO Evelyn Kabognewa Shinyekwa emphasized the importance of the donation:
“The equipment will not only enhance grassroots-level playing experience but also provide valuable training opportunities to various stakeholders. We’re confident that this donation will significantly move cricket development forward.”
The donation, coordinated through consistent communication with BDCC Honorary Secretary Martin Klumpp, aligns with UCA’s mission to strengthen cricket in Uganda through partnerships and youth development.
