Defender Simon Baligeya has completed a move to join URA FC.

Baligeya is understood to have signed a 3-year contract with URA FC. He will be a tax collector for at least until 2024.

The 20 year old was part of the historical Ugandan side that played in the finals of the recently concluded AFCON U-20 tournament in Mauritania.

Baligeya was also part of the provisional youthful team squad that helped Uganda to retain the CECAFA U-17 title last year in Gulu though he didn’t make it to the final squad.

The defender was outstanding in the Copa Coca-Cola secondary schools tournament where he featured for Standard High Zana in 2015-16, Bulo Parents from 2017 – 2018 and lately Kibuli SS in 2019-2020.

While talking to URA FC TV he said, “I am very happy to be here, it’s honestly not that easy. Over the years, people have been accustomed to the mentality that URA only fancies experienced (old) players. My move here has proved otherwise and I believe it is going to be exemplary and encouraging for other younger players.”

“I intend to utilize the experience of the players here to improve myself. and I am ready to learn from each one of them. My plan is to work hard, and pray that my chance comes so I can utilize it to showcase my capabilities,” he added.

The CEO, Henry Mayeku had high praise for the player stating:

“Simon (Baligeya) is a good young player with great potential. I came across him through our partnership with Kibuli SS and his engagement with the national youth teams.”

He went ahead to say, “We hope that it is a very great asset to URA FC. We are looking forward to nurturing a powerful defence combination this coming season.”

URA finished second last season with 57 points from 26 games.
