The second leg of the Batball Open dubbed Nile Edition came to an end yesterday at Jinja SS Cricket oval with Buutu emerging victors in a four-team competition that was broadcasted live on Batball TV.
Buutu put up a phenomenal performance throughout the tournament that saw them win all the four games they played.
Buutu went into day two of the tournament with a slot in the final already secured having won all their games in Saturday’s opening action.
In the final, Buutu won by a commanding 7 wickets posting 63/3 in 8.3 overs against Amakokotazi’s 61/2 in 10 overs.
Throughout the tournament, nine games were played by boys under the age of 19 on the field but also prevention of Early Teenage pregnancies in the region was the main agenda being pushed off the field
Despite Batball Uganda Limited being the main organiser of the tournament, the Jinja Association of Cricket Clubs and Uganda Cricket Association were the bodies that partnered with Batball to ensure the tournament is a success with the Local Organising Committee being chaired by Isaac Imaaka.
“I would like to thank everyone who made this tournament a success and also assure the players that this is one of the many tournaments that shall be played,” said Aakarshit Madaan, CEO Batball.
“And I would like to encourage the parents to continue supporting their children towards their talents as they also keep adding value to themselves for the big stage,” he added.
The final day of the competition also saw a number of guests such as Nathan Igeme Nabeeta(MP jinja South East Constituency), Mbayo Bernard (speaker of Jinja City), the Division Mayor, the Deputy RDC of Tororo District and the Deputy Prime Minister of Busoga Kingdom.
“I would like to thank all the bodies behind this project as its one of ways of promoting sports and end poverty in Busoga region,” said the Deputy Prime Minister of Busoga Kingdom.
The best 16 players from the tournament will go on to represent the region in the next challenge called Batball X that will be played next year.
