Stanbic Uganda Cup Final

Saturday, 3pm

Proline vs Bright Stars, Masaka

Fee: Shs5000 & 20000

It is been a while since Masaka last hosted a high-profile football match.

In fact, it was in 2017 while SC Villa used Masaka recreational grounds as home ground. Buddu has of recently brought joy to the locals during the Airtel-Masaka Cup tournament while Copa Coca-Cola finals that were hosted by Masaka SS in 2017 is another piece of action to note.

But now, the football family is keen and eager for yet another big day in Masaka as the 45th edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup winds down in style when Proline battles Bright Stars this Saturday at Masaka recreational grounds.

As both sides prepare to play at their maiden Cup final, Proline Coach Shafik Kajoba and Bright Stars Coach Fred Kajoba told the media about their teams’ preparation for the final during the pre-match press conference at FUFA House, Mengo.

Kajoba warned the newly promoted Proline of what they should expect albeit considering winning the title as a bonus to the season targets.

“I have experience when it comes to finals and I have already set out the strategy. We are not under pressure; when we win that will be a bonus,” noted Kajoba, who also congratulated Proline for earning promotion to the StarTimes Uganda Premier league.

Kajoba has been a distance from Bright Stars as he is in camp with the Cranes team preparing for AFCON 2019 finals in Egypt due next month. He, however, expressed confidence in his assistant Paul Kiwanuka, who is handling the team.

Just like Kajoba, Bisaso is also not under pressure to win. He expressed respect for Kajoba as a national team but has no fears ahead of the much-anticipated final.

“We are going to Masaka to present entertaining football to the fans. Football lovers should expect the best. We are going to attack and work for the victory,” noted Bisaso, whose side is fresh from winning their first ever competitive title when they beat Wakiso Giants 1-0 in the final of the 2018/19 FUFA Big league at the StarTimes stadium, Lugogo last Saturday.

Meanwhile, FUFA will be in Masaka today for their annual Social Corporate responsibility activity which is usually done prior to the Stanbic Uganda Cup final.

FUFA, led by federation President Eng. Moses Magogo, will deliver clothing to the vulnerable community in Nyendo-Masaka through the Unbound charitable organization that provides basic needs for children and the elderly. FUFA will direct their help towards the women affected with HIV/Aids.

The winner of the Stanbic-sponsored tournament takes home Shs40m away from representing the country in the CAF Confederations Cup the subsequent season while the runners up have Shs20m at stake courtesy of sponsors Stanbic bank.
