Scratch golfer (handicap 0) Peace Kabasweka is day one leader of the ladies event of the 2023 Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Golf Championship (Uganda Ladies Open) following the conclusion of the opening round on Thursday at Uganda Golf Club’s par 72 course in Kitante, Kampala.
Kabasweka who is in pursuit for a maiden Uganda Open title shot four birdies and 14 pars after 18 holes to earn her self a 4 under par 68 score ahead of the final two rounds.
Tanzanian Madina Iddy Hussein, handicap 1.5 finished second on day one with 1 over par 73. The Arusha Gymkhana Club member had two birdies, 13 pars and 3 bogeys.

Playing on home course, Kabasweka had a good show in the front nine. She had back-to-back birdies at the par 5 hole 5 and par 3 hole 6 as well as at the par 5 hole 8. She capped her round with a fourth birdie at the par 4 hole 18.
Title holder Martha Babirye finished outside the top 10 of the leaderboard on day one. She is tied for 13th with Uganda Golf Club Lady Captain Wendy Angudeyo off 9 over par 81.

The top 10 of the leaderboard has six Ugandan players, three Kenyans and one Tanzania. Day two could see a disruption of the current pecking order but it’s a very crucial round.
Meanwhile, the Seniors Open will tee-off on Friday at the same venue. The event will last for two rounds (days).
