Pepsi University Football League

Semi-Final, second leg

Wednesday, 3pm

Bugema vs UCU (Agg 1-2)

Uganda Christian University (UCU) travels to Bugema University for their Pepsi University Football League semi-final return leg this Wednesday.

The host will have to harder than they did in the first leg if they are to make it to the final for the first time in six years. UCU carry a 2-1 advantage from the first leg which coach Kintu Mwera believes is a slender lead.

“The tie is definitely not over yet. A 2-1 lead is a slender advantage and we still have some work to do. We shall need to work very hard and put in a very good performance if we are to make it to the final,” he noted.

“I believe Bugema is going to give their all and will come with waves of attack but we are ready for the challenge. We shall also be attacking them because it is dangerous to defend with such a slender lead,” Mwera added.

Bugema University coach Nyanzi Meddy believes that a place in the final is still in play despite their first leg loss.

“Although we lost in the first leg, we managed to get an away goal which was very important. We played defensively and managed to limit the deficit to just one goal,” Nyanzi said.

“For the return leg, we are going to have an all out attack. All eleven players are going to be attack minded because we need to score to win,” Nyanzi added. UCU will be without the services of their suspended defender Atuhwera Fred over accumulated cards although coach Mwera believes he has a suitable replacement in Gaganga Geoffrey –a Bachelor of Statistics student.

The winner of tomorrow’s game will face the winner between Uganda Martyrs University and St. Lawrence who play their second leg on Friday at Nkozi.

That tie is level at 1-1. The Final is scheduled for Sunday 3rd November at Namboole Stadium.
