Rogers Mato’s strike at the closing moments of halftime was enough to make KCCA FC beat Wakiso Giants 1-0 in their StarTimes Uganda Premier League game played on Thursday at the Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium.
KCCA Coach Morley Byekwaso admitted that sometimes you need luck to come atop in any campaign though overall, his side put in a good shift away from home.
“I’m so happy getting a positive result because it’s not easy picking up three points here. The team really attacked well, created chances but in football sometimes you need to have that luck to make sure you take the day,” Byekwaso said.
Mato’s goal looked controversial to the fans as he seemed offside. He struck a lose ball from Wakiso Giants’ custodian Samson Kirya moments after Allan Okello was brought down in the area. Assistant referee Ronald Katenya had his flag up but to the disappointment of the home crowd, centre referee Ali Sabila made the goal stand.
“We cannot blame the referees…but the goal was nice and we really need to pull up our socks because it’s not easy to take the trophy. We also need to work on all departments to see that both transitions can work for you,” Byekwaso added.
KCCA FC stretch their lead on the table to 32points, five ahead of joint placed BUL FC and Vipers SC.
In their next games, Wakiso Giants are away to Vipers on Wednesday 22nd February whilst KCCA will host Arua Hill on Friday 24th.
Else where, Maroons FC picked maximum points on the road after beating Busoga United 0-1 at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
