The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the inaugural CAF U17 Girls Integrated Football Tournament (GIFT) will take place from January 7 to 18, 2025, at the Azam Complex Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
This landmark initiative aims to promote the development of women’s football across Africa.
The competition, part of CAF’s strategy to foster gender equality in sports, brings together eight teams from CECAFA member associations. These teams are:
Aigle Noir FC (Burundi)
Bahir Dar Kenema FC (Ethiopia)
Kenya Academy of Sports (Kenya)
JKT Queens (Tanzania)
TDS Girls Academy (Tanzania)
Boni Consilli Girls Vocational Team (Uganda)
City Lights Football Academy (South Sudan)
Hilaad FC (Somalia)
Representing Uganda is Boni Consilli Girls Vocational Team, a school-based team known for its dedication to empowering young female footballers. This participation highlights the role of Ugandan schools in developing football talent.
The GIFT tournament offers a unique platform for these young athletes to showcase their skills and transition into competitive football structures. CAF hopes this initiative will inspire more member associations and clubs to invest in grassroots women’s football leagues and Under-17 national teams.
As Uganda’s representatives, Boni Consilli Girls Vocational Team will not only compete but also serve as ambassadors for the country’s burgeoning football development programs.
CAF’s commitment to empowering young girls through sports is expected to leave a lasting impact on the continent’s football landscape.
