CAF Confederation Cup

First Round (Second Leg)

KCCA FC vs AS Kigali  – Agg (0-2)

St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende

Wednesday 6th January 2021| 1600 EAT

KCCA FC are already two goals down against AS Kigali ahead of the second round of the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup clash slated for Wednesday, 6th January 2021 at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

KCCA FC and AS Kigali did not play the first leg because the Uganda Premier League side (KCCA) could not raise 15 players (due to COVID-19 positive tests) required for a game to kick off as per CAF competition rules. Rwandan outfit AS Kigali were handed a 2-0 advantage by CAF.

The club that emerges the winner on aggregate over two legs will qualify for the final qualification round before the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup 2021 edition while the loser will bow out of the competition.

Ahead of kick-off, KCCA gaffer Mike Mutebi says that his side are putting in the work during training sessions inorder to attempt to force a win.

“We are working hard to try to win. We shall play our way and I believe we have enough in our armory,” Mutebi told KCCA media team.

“It’s a huge task for us since they (Kigali) got an advantage in the first round. It’s up us to win and qualify and we shall play the way we’ve been playing and we will not try to be desperate. We believe we shall qualify for the next stage of the tournament,” Mutebi added.

KCCA whose players all returned COVID-19 negative tests before entering into a bubble are away from home and despite being hosts, they will be playing their home game at the backyard of their perennial rivals and Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC.

KCCA had their last training session on Tuesday at Kitende and will be hoping to defy odds when they come up against the Rwandan side.

KCCA are the only Ugandan team still playing continental football after the elimination of Vipers SC from the Champions League by Al-Hilal Omdurman over a month ago.
