The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has condemned what it described as unacceptable behaviour by some players and officials during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2025 final between Morocco and Senegal, played in Rabat on Sunday night.
In an official statement, CAF said it strongly disapproves of any inappropriate conduct during matches, particularly actions directed at match officials or tournament organizers. The football governing body confirmed that it is reviewing all available footage from the final and will refer the matter to the relevant disciplinary bodies for appropriate action against those found guilty.
The final was overshadowed by controversial scenes after Senegal protested a penalty awarded against them late in normal time. Senegalese players briefly left the field in protest, leading to a delay of around 16 minutes before play resumed. Morocco’s Brahim Diaz later missed the penalty.
Despite the disruption, Senegal regrouped and went on to defeat hosts Morocco 1 0 after extra time. The decisive moment came when Pape Gueye scored a stunning goal to secure Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph.
CAF is expected to provide further updates once its disciplinary review process is completed.
