The CECAFA Dar Port Kagame Cup 2024 is poised to kick off on July 9th in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, promising thrilling encounters as top teams from East and Central Africa vie for supremacy.
Uganda’s SC Villa, fresh off their triumphant return as champions of the Uganda Premier League after a two-decade wait, will launch their campaign against South Sudan’s El Merriekh Bentiu FC in a Group C showdown at the Azam Complex, Chamazi on the opening day.
SC Villa, no strangers to regional success with three CECAFA titles to their name, are eager to make their mark once more. Their opponents, El Merriekh Bentiu FC, enter the tournament as debutants following their recent domination of the South Sudan League.
The tournament’s opening day will also witness action-packed clashes elsewhere, including Al Wadi FC versus JKU SC in Group A at the KMC Stadium in Kinondoni, and Coastal Union FC facing Somalia’s Dekadaha in another Group A fixture.
In Group C, Rwanda’s APR FC, reigning champions of the Rwanda Premier League, will lock horns with Tanzania’s Singida Big Stars FC at the Azam Complex, Chamazi to conclude the day’s proceedings.
Yusuf Mossi, CECAFA Competitions Manager, has confirmed a rest day on July 11th before matches resume with four exciting encounters on July 12th. The group stage will climax on July 16th, leading up to the highly anticipated semi-finals on July 19th.
The top teams from each group, alongside the best runner-up, will progress to the semi-finals, with the third-place playoff and the grand final scheduled for July 21st at the Azam Complex, Chama.
