Defending champions; Peace Kabasweka and Sheilla Kesiime are still favorites to progress to the next round of this year’s Singleton Challenge from the second due this Saturday at Entebbe Golf Club.

Last year winners Kesiime (left) and Kabasweka.

In the opening round, Kabasweka eased past the male pair of Edwin Tabaro and Ivan Wesonga off a 5/4 triumph before knocking off a male rival with three holes to spare at the 15th hole. In last year’s final, Kabasweka/Kesiime knocked out another male pair of Joseph Bagabo and Paul Kaheru and the losing duo was last time out knocked out in round one off a 4/3 defeat to Greg Patterson and Josef Sala. “We feel very ready for the second round. It will not matter who we face because we are set for any opponent,” noted Kabasweka, who emerged top female golfer in the just concluded inaugural Tusker Malt Lager Golf Series with 196 points, a feat that came with an all-expense paid trip to Pattaya Thailand alongside five others. Last year, Kabasweka/Kesiime were awarded with an all-expense trip to the DP World Golf Tour Championship after they emerged Singleton Challenge champions and the duo will be keen for another trip. The grand prize for the winning pair this year is a fully paid golfing trip to watch the OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic, a series which has featured some of golf’s best players, including Tiger Woods and Henrik Stenson. There will also be business class return air tickets for the first and second runner-up pairs, as well as winners of the subsidiary events in the men’s and ladies’ categories. Other prizes include monthly subscription packages on DStv, treats at Serena Hotel, golf accessories and HTC goodies.
