Uganda female long distance runner Sarah Chelengat will return home today, Monday, 12th October 2020 after triumphing at the FBK Games held over the weekend at the Fanny Blankers-Koen Stadium in Hengelo, Netherlands.

According to athletics sources, Chelangat who finished third behind Netherland’s Sifan Hassan and Ethiopia’s Tsehay Gemechu in 10,000m heat will fly in today after a successful outing in the Netherlands.

Chelengat finished third after clocking 31:06.46, which is a national record. The previous national record of 31:37.99 was held by Juliet Chekwel which she attained on April 24, 2016 in Diecimila di Rubiera, Italy.

The weekend achievement is also Chelengat’s second national record.  The other is in the 5000m heat off a time of 15:00.61 in Nijmegen in June last year.

Still in Hengelo, Uganda’s Winnie Nanyondo finished second still at the 1000m heat clocking 2:40.50, behind Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon (2:32.82) while Eunice Sum (Kenya) came third at 2:41.37.

The FBK Games is an annual track and field event, always held at the Fanny Blankers-Koen Stadium in Hengelo, Netherlands as part of the IAAF World Challenge Meetings. It was first organized in 1981. Its name honours Fanny Blankers-Koen, who won four gold medals at the 1948 Olympic Games.
It was previously known as the Adriaan Paulen Memorial from 1987 to 2000, in memory of another Dutch athlete.
