CHESS: SSEGWANYI, KAWUMA AND WANYAMA TOP UGANDA MEN FIDE RANKINGS FOR APRIL

Artuhur Ssegwanyi has stayed at the top of the Fide Men Rankings for the month of March which were released on 1st this month.

Despite the decision by Uganda Chess Federation to suspend all their events, the International Master since 2015, Arthur Ssegwanyi maintained the top spot of the Uganda April rating list.

According to the rating list, Ssegwanyi with 2395 elo points, he didn’t only go top but also moved closer to the 2400 mark that is still a myth in the East African region.

On the continent Ssegwanyi is ranked 22nd in active players while in the world he is in 2248.

Patrick Kawuma leapfrogged National team coach and All Africa games bronze medalist Harold Wanyama to go second.

According to the ratings, Patrick Kawuma collected 2323 elo points and ranked 39 ln the continent, 4072 worldwide while Harold Wanyama 2312 stands in the 44th position (Africa) and 4421 Worldwide.

In the 4th position is International Master Elijah Emojong at 2283 makinh him ranked 55 in Africa and 5465 worldwide as Player representative, Walter Okas completes the top five at 2220. Okas is ranked 102 in Africa and 8287 in the world.

Mathias Allan Ssonko (2167) stands in the 6th position, Haruna Nsubuga (2135) in the 7th, Bob Bibasa in the 8th, Isaac Munanira (2108) and Simon Gonza (2103) in the 9th and 10th position.

Uganda Chess Federation currently has an Elite group of 20 Chess players above the 2000 mark which indicates the commitment of the Federation.

“The importance of rating can not be underestimated because a title can be awarded on rating, Tournament invitations and Incentives go to higher rated players”. Reads the document released by Uganda Chess Federation.

“Highly rated coaches commands a bigger pay amd top 10 players average rating is used to rate a country”

In the Women rankings, Women Fide Master Claire Ivy Amoko tops rating 1862. Amoko is ranked 48th locally in active players.

In Africa, Amoko is ranked 1220 ( Active Players) while in the world she is ranked 48484 (Active Players).

In the 2nd position is Peninah Nakabo rating 1730. Nakabo stands in the 92nd position (Active Players) in Uganda.

On the continent, Nakabo stands 2123 (Active Players) while in the world 69962 (Active Players).

Ritah Nsubuga comes in the 3rd position locally rating 1686, Shakira Ampaire in the 4th position rating 1673 as Christine Namaganda complete the five best in Uganda rated 1661.
