Chinhoi triumphs at 2022 Uganda Professional Golf Open

Chinhoi who also won the 2020 edition shot an overall 11 under par 277.

Zimbabwe’s Robson Chinhoi was in joyous mood after he won the 2022 Tusker Malt Uganda Professional Golf Open that came to a close on Saturday at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa’s par-72 comely course in Kigo.

Chinhoi who also won the 2020 edition shot an overall 11 under par 277 (gross). He was ten shots ahead of Uganda’s and gallery favorite Ronald Rugumayo and Kenya’s Simon Ngige who tied for second with 1 under par 287.

To celebrate his victory, Chinhoi took it to the water next to the 18th and displayed his swimming skills to the excitement of the onlookers.

Chinhoi who led throughout the four-day showpiece shot 3 under par 69 in the opening round. He had 2 under par 70 in day two, a whooping 6 under par on day three and capped proceedings with level par 72 on Saturday’s final round.

On Saturday, the Royal Harare Golf Club star shot an eagle in the par-5 hole 13 just like he did in the opening round. He birdied in the holes 6 and 8. He had four borgeys and the rest were pars.

The pro kitty was UGX100M and Chinhoi took 21% of it.

Meanwhile, Irene Nakalembe who was the only lady to make the money cut tied for 31st with two other players after four rounds.

The 2022 Tusker Malt Uganda Professional Golf Open doubled as the opening leg of the 2022/23 Safari Tour, a qualifier for the 2023 Magical Kenya Open, a European Tour event.

The professional open was the fifth and final event of the 2022 Tusker Malt Uganda Golf Open. The events were; Ladies Open, Seniors Open, Amateurs Open and the Pro-Am.

The lead sponsor of the tournament was Uganda Breweries Limited through the Tusker Malt Lager beer brand. Co-sponsors/partners are; Pepsi, Case Medical Care, Absa Bank, HK Properties including NBS Sport.
