Coca-Cola Beverages Africa in Uganda has committed Shs150m to the MTN Marathon through its Rwenzori Pure Natural Mineral Water brand. This was announced on Friday at Rwenzori premises in Namanve by Business Development and Commercialization Director Flavia Mbabazi.

She said that Coca-Cola Beverages Africa is committed to improving Uganda through its regular business operations and partnering with causes like running for improving maternal health services across the Country.

“It is a pleasure to be here today as we once again handover our sponsorship package to the MTN Marathon. Our relationship with MTN and this prestigious marathon dates back many years. This is mainly because of the value that we attach to this marathon and to the thousands of Ugandans who have benefitted from the different causes over the years,” Mbabazi said.

“Our heritage in Uganda is not just pegged to being a symbol of refreshing hydration; it also includes decades of humanitarian causes that we either initiate or sponsor. It is therefore natural for Rwenzori Pure Natural Mineral Water to be part of the MTN Marathon –which brings together people from different nationalities, with different beliefs and speaking different languages, all for one common goal – to give back and improve the lives of those in less privileged communities,” she added. This year, the sponsorship package will consist of 4000 cartons of Rwenzori Pure Natural Mineral Water and Shs75m cash.

Mbabazi, who urged all Ugandans join hands in limiting environmental damage by collecting plastics for recycling, advised runners to ensure that during and after the MTN Marathon, they discard the plastic bottles carefully to enable recycling at the Plastic Recycling Industries, another subsidiary of the Coca Cola Beverages Africa Group.

Rwenzori will deploy plastic collection points along the MTN Marathon route in order to limit the wrongful disposal of used plastic water bottles by the thousands of people who will be participating. MTN-Uganda Ag. Chief Marketing Officer Sen Somdev said that this collaboration is further strengthened by the good reason for raising funds to support the improvement of maternal health in the country.

The 2019 MTN-Kampala marathon started with mini-marathons in the East, North, West Nile and Western part of the country before the main marathon on Sunday, November 24 starting at the Kololo independence grounds.

Runners will participate in four categories of races, including a full marathon (42km), 21kms, 10kms, 5kms and wheelchair race.
