The 2026 edition of the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally is building into a defining moment for motorsport in the region, with a record 65 crews confirmed for the event, the highest number ever registered in the rally’s history.
Scheduled to run from May 7 to 10 across the demanding terrains of Mbarara and Kiruhura districts, the rally has attracted a strong blend of continental contenders and top domestic competitors, setting the stage for one of the most competitive editions yet.
Out of the 65 entries, 20 crews will compete in the African Rally Championship category while the rest will battle for national honors in a field packed with experience, speed, and rising talent.
The regional presence is particularly strong this year, with Kenya sending a formidable lineup that includes Karan Patel, Samman Vohra, and former national champion Jasmeet Chana, all aiming to make a mark on Ugandan soil.
Tanzania’s challenge is led by reigning national champion Ahmed Huwel, who is set to debut his Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, adding intrigue to an already competitive field. The Birdi brothers, Randeep Singh Birdi and Manvir Birdi, also feature in the national category, bringing additional depth with proven rally machinery.
Rwanda returns with its own ambitions as Christian Kanangire looks to build on his recent performances, while Queen Kalimpinya’s participation continues to highlight the growing diversity and competitiveness of the regional rally scene.
On the home front, Uganda’s charge in the African Rally Championship will be spearheaded by reigning African champion Yasin Nasser alongside co-driver Ali Katumba, who will once again rely on their Ford Fiesta R5 as they seek to defend their continental crown in front of a home crowd.
They will be supported by a strong Ugandan contingent that includes Mike Mukula Jr, Aine Sodo Kaguta, Kevin Bebeto, Stefano Valeri, and Godfrey Nsereko, who is set to make his debut in the ARC category.
The national category promises equally intense competition, with some of Uganda’s most popular drivers confirmed for the event.
Duncan Mubiru, Hassan Alwi Jr, Ronald Ssebuguzi, Ponsiano Lwakataka, Moses Lumala, and returning driver Jonas Kansime are all expected to deliver thrilling performances as they battle for supremacy.
The rally will cover a total distance of 569.16 kilometers, including 201.85 kilometers of competitive stages and 367.31 kilometers of liaison sections.
