Cowcorner bowled off their Kigali Tour with a hard-fought three-wicket victory over Rwanda Cricket Association Staff at the IPRC Kigali Oval in a contest that remained tense from the first delivery to the last.
After being sent in to bat, RCA Staff struggled to build lasting partnerships on a surface that offered assistance to the bowlers. Manasseh Iyaremye briefly lit up the innings with a brisk six in his five-ball stay before departing early, while Landry Rurangwa followed soon after for just one.
The top order never fully settled, with promising starts cut short by disciplined bowling. Aimable Dushimimana stood out for RCA Staff, compiling a patient 24 off 35 balls and attempting to anchor the innings as wickets tumbled around him. Emile Munyampirwa added 12, and captain Leonard Nhamburo contributed 11, but momentum remained elusive.
Richard Oluka led Cowcorner’s charge with an impressive 3 for 16, consistently breaking partnerships just as they threatened to form. He was well supported by Hillary Kuteesa, Felix Musana, Allan Ssemakula, Shane Senyonga, Gerald Orumo and Brian Masaba, as RCA Staff were bowled out for 74 in 17.4 overs.
While modest, the total proved anything but straightforward to chase.
Cowcorner’s reply began shakily. Jimmy Atuhaire fell for 3, Denis Musaali managed only 2, Andrew Nyumba was dismissed without scoring, and Gerald Orumo added just 3. Suddenly, the target of 75 appeared distant as RCA Staff’s bowlers, led by Jean Claude Dushengumuremyi and Iyaremye, tightened their grip.
Derrick Bakunzi steadied the innings with a crucial 29 off 28 balls, striking three boundaries and a six in a measured display of controlled aggression. Kuteesa chipped in with a lively 13 off 10 deliveries, nudging Cowcorner closer to the target.
However, wickets continued to fall, and at 70 for 7, the match hung in the balance.
Captain Allan Ssemakula rose to the occasion, striking an unbeaten 10 off just five balls, including a towering six that shifted the momentum decisively.
With Masaba supporting on 5 not out, Cowcorner reached 75 for 7 in 13.1 overs to seal a dramatic three-wicket win.
The victory sets the tone for the tour, with a double header against Siverback scheduled at the same venue tomorrow, promising more intensity and drama in Kigali.
