The Uganda Men’s National Football team, the Cranes have on Monday, May 31 started training ahead of their match against South Africa.

Uganda will face Bafana Bafana in Johannesburg on Saturday, June 12 in an international friendly.

Under the guidance of interim head coach Abdallah Mubiru and his assistants Livingstone Mbabazi and Fred Kajoba, a squad of 14 players trained for two hours on Monday morning at Lugogo

All Vipers SC players did not take part in the session as they prepare to face SC Villa in the Uganda Cup on Wednesday.

Express captain Enock Walusimbi and defender Murushid Juuko were both present at the session but striker Eric Kambale who is understood to yet sort his nationality issues was absent.

Head coach Mubiru expressed gratitude upon the positive response of the players who turned up; with the right mentality, character and fitness.

“I thank the Almighty Allah for the gift of life and making all things happen. We have started our training sessions today in preparation for the match against South Africa. This is a rebuilding process for the team as most of the senior players retired from the beautiful game on the senior team. I am however happy by the attitude of the players on the team.” Mubiru disclosed.

All the players and officials were subject to the mandatory COVID-19 test before entering the residential camp at Cranes Paradise Hotel in Kisaasi.

Day two of the training sessions will be held on Tuesday, 1st June 2021 at Lugogo starting 9am.
