Uganda men’s national cricket team, Cricket Cranes have stepped up their preparations ahead of a busy international schedule in the final quarter of the year.

The team entered a residential training in Entebbe last week after all players and officials returned negative Covid-19 results.

They are set to engage Kenya in three Limited Overs (50-over games) from September 3rd to 7th in the inaugural Derby Trophy.
The two nations will later be joined by Nigeria for an ICC-sanctioned Tri-Series from September 7th to 18th at the lakeside Entebbe Oval. The tri-series will have ICC ranking
points.

Cricket Cranes are also revving up for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Africa Qualifiers in
Kigali, Rwanda from October 14th to 23rd as well as the ICC Cricket World Challenge League B
scheduled at a venue and date yet to be communicated.

The side recently engaged in a mouth watering  national team trial match played out at the University Oval in Kyambogo.

So many big performances with three standing out; a fifer from Kenneth Waiswa, an unbeaten century from Deus Muhumuza and a winning man of match performance from  Riazat Ali Sha with a half-ton and four wickets.

For Muhumuza, a century in a trial session is a good boost for him and the side at large but the main focus still remains at the events proper.

“It brings good energy to the team,” Muhumuza told the team’s media adding that; “this isn’t my first 100, I have scored 100 at club games but this is my first national team trial 100 which is a good thing.”

“It also brings confidence. A couple of batsmen have been batting well. The most important thing is consistency. So, we look forward to this series,” Muhumuza added.

However, other national sides, Baby Cricket Cranes (U-19 Boys) and Lady Cricket Cranes are also in camp. The boys are preparing for the ICC U-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier scheduled for September 28th to October 7th in Kigali, Rwanda while the ladies are preparing for the Global World Cup Qualifiers scheduled for September 7th to 20th in Gaborone, Botswana.
