The Uganda national cricket team staged a remarkable comeback, leveling their T20 series against Bahrain with a dominant 8-wicket win at Jinja SSS Oval.
This victory, following a narrow 17-run defeat in the series opener, has boosted the team’s morale as they look forward to the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League B in Kampala and Entebbe from November 4-16.
Bahrain, opting to bat first, was restricted to 89 runs in 18.1 overs.
Haider Ali was the standout for Bahrain, contributing a steady 54 off 46 balls.
Uganda’s disciplined bowling, led by Cosmas Kyewuta (3/12) and Juma Miyaji (3/18), proved effective in stifling Bahrain’s progress.
Henry Ssenyondo also played a crucial role with 2/14 from his four overs.
In response, Uganda comfortably chased down the target in just 15.4 overs.
Sriddeep Mangela scored an impressive 36 off 30 balls, while Raghav Dhawan chipped in with a brisk 21 off 21 balls.
Robinson Obuya anchored the innings with an unbeaten 28 off 41 balls, guiding Uganda to victory with eight wickets to spare.
Head coach Abhay Sharma praised the team’s resilience, expressing satisfaction with their unity and teamwork.
“The boys are in a good place, and it’s encouraging to see them coming together and gelling as a unit. We’re focused on maintaining this momentum as we prepare for the upcoming tournament,” he commented.
Robinson Obuya echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the batsmen’s commitment. “We’re working hard to convert our starts into better contributions, and this win is a testament to our efforts,” he noted.
Bahrain’s captain expressed disappointment in their performance, particularly in fielding, which he cited as a significant factor in their defeat. He stressed the need to rectify errors as they look to the decisive 50-over match on October 31 at Jinja SSS Oval, where both teams will battle for the series win.
