Cricket Uganda convened a pivotal two-day Strategic Workshop last week under the theme “Taking Stock – Building on the 2021–2025 Strategic Journey.” The gathering brought together board members, management, technical teams, and partners to review the organisation’s progress and refine its direction for the next strategic cycle.
In his opening remarks, Chairman Jackson Kavuma praised the strides made in governance, performance, and program development, noting that unity and discipline would be central to sustaining this momentum. Participants examined the outgoing strategic plan through a detailed review of key performance indicators, successes, and challenges that shaped the past five years. Discussions also produced a Success and Challenge Matrix, while theme leads presented assessments across high performance, development, finance, media and public relations, marketing, and infrastructure.
A session led by ICC Africa Regional Development Officer Justine Ligyalingi provided insight into global cricket development trends, highlighting international best practices that could inform Uganda’s next phase. SWOT and PESTEL exercises further helped participants evaluate internal capacities and external influences, resulting in a comprehensive situational analysis to guide future decision making.
The second day of the workshop shifted focus to positioning Ugandan cricket for growth over the next five years. Participants examined financial performance and explored avenues to strengthen revenue streams and sponsorship relationships. Stakeholder mapping sessions identified key partners essential to advancing the sport, while governance deliberations centred on reinforcing accountability and sustainability.
A visioning exercise titled “CU @2030” invited participants to imagine the ideal future of Ugandan cricket, shaping conversations around long-term competitiveness, talent pathways, and infrastructure expansion. Working groups drafted strategic priorities across high performance, development, finance and operations, media and marketing, and infrastructure. A resource mobilisation plan was also initiated, outlining strategies to sustain and scale initiatives throughout the 2026–2030 period.
Reflecting on the workshop, Honorary Secretary Denis Musali emphasised the importance of collective contribution in shaping the organisation’s future. He noted that the ideas shared would be consolidated into a single strategy document that would guide Cricket Uganda’s direction over the next five years.
Head of High Performance and Pathways Richard Okia highlighted the practicality of the discussions, acknowledging that the insights generated would play a key role in growing the game, nurturing talent, and elevating Uganda’s global cricket profile.
The workshop concluded with a shared commitment to discipline, collaboration, and consistency. Cricket Uganda will now synthesise the workshop’s outputs into the Cricket Uganda Strategic Plan 2026–2030, a roadmap designed to strengthen structures, enhance sustainability, and drive the national game to new competitive heights.
