The second season of the Kololo Youth Tennis League (KYTL) came to a close over the weekend at the East Kololo Primary School courts, a venue that has hosted the event since its inception.

The second edition of the league ran from February 7th 2021 to 11th April 2021 and it was played by 14 players in division one and 18 players in division two. First Division has players from the age of 14 to 18 years while the second division has players from age group of 12 to 14 years.

According to League Coordinator – Julius Kyobe, the second edition has been successful and it has helped groom budding youngsters who have grown in the game, something he prides in.

“I am happy to see that we have created a great platform for junior players where they can come and get the opportunity to learn from the best, compete at their level best and also make friends along the way,” Kyobe said.

Kyobe also adds that the second season attracted more players as compared to the first one.

“During the second season, we had an increase in players from 25 players to 36 players and the level of competition was very high compared to the first season,” Kyobe added.

However, in Division One, season one defending champion Kato Saudi Musa beat Otto Allan 6/2, 6/1 to win his second league title in the boys category while Maria Amwene beat season one defending champion Awati Annet 6/0, 6/2 to win her first league title in the girls category.

Afayo Fabious was crowned Division One best male player of the season while Maria Amwene was crowned best female player of the season.

In the second division, Byaruhanga Ambrose beat Ogen Ricky 7/6, 6/2 to win his first league title in the boys category while season one defending champion Edinah Nabiryo beat Abigail Nabasinga 6/2, 3/6, 6/2 to win her second league title in the girls category.

Jill Torres Acar was crowned division two best female player of the season and Jonathan Bizimana was crowned best male player of the season.

The third season of the league, that is organized by Tennis For All Uganda will serve-off on Sunday 2nd May 2021.
