At the August outing of the Corporate Sports Network (CSN) games held on Sunday at Luzira Prisons Grounds, Dfcu Bank and Centenary Bank emerged as standout performers in an event that drew participation from 35 corporate companies.

The athletics meet, which featured highly anticipated 100-meter and 200-meter sprints, did not disappoint, with athletes putting on a show reminiscent of recent Olympic-level competitions.

Sprint Events: The Highlights

In the men’s 100-meter race, Case Hospital’s Francis Drani clinched gold, followed by Centenary Bank’s Henry Kayongo, who secured silver, and Stanbic Bank’s representative, who took home the bronze. The women’s 100-meter event saw Eunice Apolot from Uganda Prisons Service dominating the race to win gold, with Dfcu’s Veronica Nansubuga and Case Hospital’s Irene Rukundo claiming silver and bronze, respectively.

The 200-meter races were equally thrilling. In the men’s category, Dfcu’s Brian Nuwamanya sped to victory, earning gold, while Cipla Quality Chemicals’ athlete took silver, and Roofings Group’s sprinter settled for bronze. On the women’s side, Centenary Bank’s Mary Unyuthfua won gold, with athletes from Hotel Africana and Dummen Orange taking silver and bronze, respectively.

Netball and Football: More Victories

The action extended beyond the track. In netball, Hotel Africana triumphed over Dummen Orange in a nail-biting final, while Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) secured bronze after a hard-fought win against Manifest TV.

Football provided plenty of drama, with Centenary Bank dominating SGA Security in a 4-0 victory. Lubaga Hospital showcased their offensive prowess, demolishing Uganda Electricity Transmission 8-0, while Crown Beverages overcame NSSF with a 5-2 win. Hotel Africana also continued their strong form by beating SGA Security 4-1.

With 23 football games played, Tropical Bank currently leads the standings with 60 points, closely followed by Uganda Revenue Authority (58 points), Cipla Quality Chemicals Limited (53 points), DTB Bank (52 points), and Uganda Breweries Limited (51 points).

Looking Ahead

The Corporate Sports Network games, which continue to grow in popularity, will return on September 29 at Luzira Prisons Grounds, where football, tug-of-war, and various fun games will be the center of attention, according to Corporate Sports Network General Manager Charles Ssempagala.

The event promises to be another exciting day of competition as corporate athletes gear up to showcase their talents and vie for more accolades.
