All the UCU (Uganda Christian University) sides, Lady Canons and Canons were triumphant in the Tusker Lite National Basketball League (NBL), in the women and men’s division respectively during the Saturday games held at the YMCA court in Wandegeya, Kampala.

UCU Lady Canons beat top tier debutants Miracle Ravens 66-60 whilst UCU Canons whitewashed new comers Tropical Royals 8O-36 to post the biggest score line of the season so far.

In the women’s game, Rose Akon lead Lady Canons with 19 points, 10 rebounds plus 2 assists. Hajara Najjuko posted 16 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists for the university team.

For the Miracle Ravens, Brenda Alyano led the side in a losing effort shooting 18 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Lillian Cherotich had 10 points and 4 rebounds.

In the men’s game, Kevin Kasobya led a dominant UCU side with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Crammer Wamala managed 10 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists for the Mukono based outfit.

No Tropical Royals player managed double figures but Highman Ssemakula had 6 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Denis Omara and Charles Ochero had 5 points apiece.

Among other interesting results, another big victory of the weekend was when men’s title holders City Oilers beat KCCA Panthers 80-46 to send a message to potential rivals having had a false start to the season.

A shooting challenge was also held over the weekend. It is meant to engage fans, whether they know the nitty gritty of the game or not. The men’s challenge will happen soon.

The regular season of the 2022 Tusker Lite National Basketball League continues today with five games on the card at the MTN Arena Lugogo.
