Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) president Aleksander Čeferin is in Uganda for the first time ever. He touched down today, Tuesday, 14th March 2023 and he was received by the Minister of State for Sports, Peter Ogwang and other officials from the National Council of Sports (NCS) at Entebbe International Airport.
“It is my singular honour to receive and welcome the President of UEFA, Mr. Aleksander Čeferin who is in Uganda. It is a noble privilege to have you here for the first time. I am optimistic that your visit will breathe new life and hope for our underprivileged young talent,” Minister of State for Sports Ogwang said via a tweet.
The primary purpose of Čeferin’s coming to Uganda is to visit Aliguma Foundation and check the progress of the Acholi Quarters project. Čeferin and his team plan to stay for an entire day tomorrow inorder to check on different works of the foundation in promoting better livelihoods in the slum communities through sports especially football.
Speaking at the Entebbe Airport VVIP lounge, Čeferin said he is extremely delighted to come to Uganda for the first time ever.
“We have the FIFA Congress in Kigali, but the best part of the congress for me is Uganda. I am looking forward to my stay in Uganda,” Čeferin told media.
Čeferin will also meet the first lady and minister of education & sports Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni.
Čeferin is flanked by his UEFA counterparts, that is; Kevin Lamour – Member of the Board, Urs Kluser – General Secretary and Sršen Matej – Consultant.
After his stay in Uganda, Čeferin will then depart for Kigali, Rwanda ahead of the 73rd FIFA Congress which will be held on 16th March 2023

● Arrival of UEFA President and entourage at Entebbe International Airport via VIP Lounge. Then transfer to Serena Hotel Kampala for the night.
March 15, 2023 – Starting 9am
● Serena Hotel transfer To Acholi Quarters
● Charity March in Kireka Banda B1 Zone – Slum Communities
● Then Acholi Quarters For Exhibitions & Sports Gala
● Meet with the First Lady of the Republic of Uganda at the State House.
● Drive back to Entebbe International Airport for departure.
