Fireworks have been promised come the 2nd leg of the Friday Night Lights (FNL) Season 9; which is happening this Friday December 22, 2023 at the Lugogo Hockey Grounds in Kampala.

“A few celebrities will be the surprise additions on various squads this time around. Fans will be in for a treat,” Tom Ocamringa, the FNL Team Leader said.

The eight (8) participating squads include Team Melo (captained by Saidi “Carmelo” Amisi), Team Afande (led by Henry Okoth), Team Comfort (captained by Leticia Comfort Awor), Team Drileba (led by Tony Drileba) and Team Ekon (under Brenda Ekone). Others are Ritah Imanishiwe’s Team Iman, Godfrey Soro’s Team Soro and Team Wazee largely comprised of middle-aged ex-players.

Castle Lite beer is the headline sponsor under its new Unlock, Refresh and Enjoy tagline.

“Castle Lite beer has everyone covered. We expect more FNL fans this Friday and we are well equipped to serve them,” said Ibrahim Nkwanga, Nile Breweries Limited’s (NBL) Trade Marketing Representative.

NRG, the leading youth-centric radio in Uganda and FNL’s vibes partner will also have a number of its popular presenters and DJs entertaining fans.

Together with Mountain Dew, the other partner, the sponsors have promised additional fan engagements including challenges and gift hamper giveaways this Friday.

FNL has been Uganda’s premiere sports-meets-showbiz event since 2011; offering a unique blend of basketball, music, food and beverages and all forms of entertainment.

It returned two Fridays ago following a Covid19-induced break. It had last been held in 2019.

Unlike the past editions which have been arranged in the early months of a new year – over a six to eight weeks duration, Season 9 is shorter to accommodate the changed National Basketball League (NBL) calendar.
