All female golf teams overcame their male competitors during the previous (second) round of the Singleton Match play Challenge last month at Entebbe Golf Club as they matched to the quarter-finals due this weekend at he same venue.
The pair of Peace Kabasweka/Sheila Kesiime being the defending champions has turned out an inspiration to the females.
Last time out, title holders Kabasweka/Kesiime put up a commanding display to beat Barnabas Bakamuntumaho/Robert Sabiiti by 5-up with four holes to spare.
This weekend, they face another male pair in the shape of Charles Odero/Samuel Kato who outwitted a veteran pair of Joel Kakira and John Byabagambi last time out.
Another female pair of Wendy Angudeyo/Doreen Mwesigye has also come of age and after beating the male pair of Richard Mwami/Tony Kishada 1up last month, they are poised to become the next female team to claim top honors.
“We can progress to the next round but it all goes down to hard work. We are facing more experienced opponents so we have to be very calculative,” the pair revealed recently. They face Elly Mukasa/Kiryowa Kiwanuka this weekend. The other all-female pairs are; Gloria Mbaguta/Evelyn Asiimwe and Maureen Okura/Martha Babirye. These two will face each other on Saturday thus an assurance of another female team in the next round. The only mixed pair of Caroline Namutebi/Collins Odere will face the male pair of Businge/Lutwama.
A Pajero Sport is the hole in one prize though it is very tricky to notch it. Other prizes from sponsors await golfers at the 18th hole before a 19th hole treat. Singleton Whiskey is the main sponsor of the event. Co-sponsors include RwandAir, DStv, Street Club, Serena Hotels, Ekspreso, Afrisafe Risk Partners, Victoria Motors and Pinnacle Security.
