FIFA report: Uganda plays its part in record-breaking transfers

A recent FIFA Global Transfer Report has highlighted Uganda’s contribution to international football transfers in 2024, with the country recording 144 player transactions across various levels of the game.

The report indicates that Uganda was part of a record-breaking 78,742 international transfers, which included both professional and amateur football across FIFA’s 211 Member Associations.

Breakdown of Uganda’s transfers

Men’s professional football:

Incoming transfers: 51

Outgoing transfers: 46

Growth Rates: 0.109% (incoming), -0.08% (outgoing)

Women’s professional football:

Incoming transfers: 8

Outgoing transfers: 15

Growth Rates: 0.6% (incoming), 0.667% (outgoing)

Amateur football:

Incoming transfers: 4

Outgoing transfers: 20

Growth Rates: -0.2% (incoming), -0.13% (outgoing)

Global transfer trends

The 2024 FIFA Global Transfer Report also shed light on key worldwide transfer trends:

Total international transfers: 78,742

Men’s professional transfers: 22,779

Women’s professional transfers: 2,284

Top transfer market: Brazil (2,215 transfers)

Africa’s leading country: Benin (244 transfers)

Total transfer fees spent: $8.59 billion

While Uganda’s numbers remain modest compared to global powerhouses, the steady flow of Ugandan players into international leagues reflects the country’s growing influence in world football.
