Midfielder Shakira Nyinagahirwa believes Uganda has the ability to overcome Ethiopia as the two teams prepare to face off in the first round of the 2022 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.

Uganda will host the first leg on 4th March 2022 at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende with the return leg coming in two weeks’ time.

Nyinagahirwa who plies her trade at Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC in the FUFA Women Super League is confident Uganda will go past their counterparts come next month.

“I am first of all happy to be part of the U17 Women’s National Team set up. I have the confidence that we are a good team that can overcome Ethiopia and progress to the next level.” She said.

The midfielder was one of the five players that joined camp on Monday. The others included; Catherine Nagadya, Hadijah Nandago, Joweria Nagadya and Phiona Nabulime.

All the aforementioned players were part of the U20 Women’s National Team that played against Ghana earlier this month.

Nyinagahirwa believes the games played in the League gives them a good test ahead of the encounter against Ethiopia.

“Some of us have been active in the League and the three games played so far have prepared us both physically and mentally.” She indicated.

The provisional squad of 30 players is currently camping at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru. It from here that the final squad of 20 will be named.
