The second cycle of the FIFA Women’s Football Campaign successfully concluded at the Bukedea Comprehensive Academy Stadium on March 1, 2025.
The three-day event, running from February 28 to March 1, saw participation from 20 primary schools across Bukedea District, fostering young talent and promoting the growth of women’s football in Uganda.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) CEO Edgar Watson commended parents for allowing their daughters to take part in the initiative, emphasizing FUFA’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of female footballers.
“I appreciate the parents for allowing young girls to participate in football,” Watson stated. “To the girls, as FUFA, we have hope in you that you will be able to represent us on the world stage.”
The FIFA Women’s Football Campaign aims to promote the sport, raise awareness, and empower young girls through football in a friendly and safe environment.
The event featured workshops, training sessions, and matches designed to enhance technical skills and instill confidence in the participants.
Crested Cranes star and Washington Spirit player Shadia Nankya served as the campaign’s ambassador, actively engaging with the young players. She shared her experiences, encouraging them to pursue their dreams.
“I see the new generations trying to make things work as they grow up. By the time they reach my age, they will be the best,” Nankya remarked. “While I was growing up, we didn’t have this,” she added, highlighting the progress in women’s football development.
The event also drew the presence of FUFA Executive Committee Members Richard Ochom and Agnes Mugena, alongside Women’s Football Association Chairperson Margaret Kubingi.
At the conclusion of the campaign, participating schools were presented with footballs as a token of support for continued practice and development.
