The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of Uganda (FMU) has on Tuesday, 14th September unveiled a state-of-the-art medical ambulance in a bid to promote health and safety of drivers, co-drivers, support personell and the fans of the sport. They also launched rally clocks.

The ambulance that is fully equipped with top notch equipment was donated to the federation by Victoria University – Faculty of Health Sciences together with The Ruparelia Foundation.

However, for the clocks, the federation has managed to clear them as they have been outstanding since they (FMU) got a grant in 2015.

FMU President, Dipu Ruparelia while speaking at the unveiling of the ambulance and launch of the clocks at Kabira Country Club in Bukoto, Kampala expressed his delight in this development and thanked all those who made it become a reality.

“This is a huge milestone and a great achievement for the sport and the fraternity as a whole,” Dipu said at the function.

“Despite the challenges we’ve faced since we came into administration, this is the start of one of many assets we’ve acquired, and is very critical in helping our medical commission in emergency evaluations,” Dipu added before lauding the federation’s marketing team.

Victoria University Vice Chancellor, Dr. Lawrence Muganga said that the ambulance will be of big help to the federation and motorsport as a whole.

“We have no doubt that this fully equipped ambulance will certainly promote safety in the motorsport industry by availing both rescue and medical services on the track and all the way to the hospital if necessary and most importantly providing the best possible immediate care in the shortest possible time,” Muganga said adding that they’ll continue working closely with FMU and motorsport as a whole.

The Ruparelia Foundation Director, Rajiv Ruparelia revealed that a section of drivers and other stakeholders of the sport helped clear the environmental tax for the ambulance charged by URA upon its purchase.

David Katende Semakula – NCS Assistant General Secretary/ Technical also graced the event and lauded the federation for prioritizing the safety of drivers and fans.

With Covid-19 disruptions having been a damper on local activities, FMU hopes that the Tuesday activities will help them roll out soon.
