The fourth edition of the Deep End Schools Cricket Tournament officially bowled off this morning, bringing fresh excitement to the Mukono region as schools clash for supremacy in one of Uganda’s fastest-growing youth cricket events.
Organised by Deep End Sports Media in partnership with the Mukono Cricket Community, the annual competition is designed to nurture budding cricket talent by giving students structured match time, game awareness, and skill development opportunities.
This year’s edition has attracted a record number of participants, with four debutants—Busoga College Mwiri, Shree Sahajanand School, Delhi Public International School, and St. Johns High School Kauga—joining the fray to add new energy and competitiveness.
Defending champions Mukono Kings High School (girls) and St. Cornelius SS Kalagala (boys) are already on the spotlight as they bid to retain their crowns. Both sides have enjoyed dominance in recent editions, with St. Cornelius winning back-to-back boys’ titles and Mukono Kings doing the same in the girls’ category.
To widen access and boost fan engagement, select matches will be streamed live, while schools such as St. Cornelius, Mukono Kings, and Mt. St. Henry’s High School have installed projectors to allow students to follow the action from their campuses.
Speaking ahead of the opening day, Simon Kintu, Chairman of the Mukono Cricket Community and head of the local organising committee, said all systems were set for a successful tournament.
“Preparations have gone well and the excitement among the schools is evident. The rivalry between defending champions Mukono Kings and St. Cornelius is already building, and we expect a thrilling competition.”
Matches are being played across four venues—Gayaza Ground, Namagunga Ground, Takajunge Ground, and Mt. St. Henry’s Ground (Florida Oval). The tournament will be contested in a single round-robin format, with the top four teams in each category progressing to the semifinals before the grand finals.
With its growing reach and popularity, the Deep End Schools Cricket Tournament continues to strengthen youth involvement in sports and promises another thrilling chapter in Uganda’s school cricket calendar.
