French PGA coach and European senior tour player Philippe Corsaletti is conducting a two-week junior golf training camp in Uganda, aimed at developing the country’s next generation of elite players.
Corsaletti, who arrived recently in Fort Portal on July 30, is working closely with AFRIYEA Golf Academy and Tooro Golf Club to train young golfers aged 12 to 16, particularly those with handicaps of 20 or better.
“I’m excited to be here,” said Corsaletti. “Uganda has some incredible young talent. This camp is about more than just swing mechanics — we’re helping kids understand course strategy, develop mental toughness, and learn the values that come with the game.”
A certified Master Performance Coach with the Swiss PGA, Corsaletti also holds credentials from the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) and is a U.S. Kids Golf–certified coach. He’s competed on the European Senior Tour and was a top-four finisher in the 2023 European Long Drive Championship. His coaching career has taken him across Europe, the Middle East, and now Africa, driven by a passion to grow the sport in emerging regions.
The training camp is part of AFRIYEA Golf Academy’s mission to grow golf across East Africa, using the sport not only to build athletic ability but also to instill character and life skills.
“Golf is a game of character, and that’s exactly what we’re building here,” said Isaiah Mwesige, Founder of AFRIYEA Golf Academy. “Working with someone like Philippe shows our juniors what’s possible when they commit to the game. The aim is to identify talent that can compete on the global stage.”
Held daily at Tooro Golf Club, the sessions feature hands-on instruction from Corsaletti, covering full-swing analysis, short game, putting under pressure, and on-course play. The camp will culminate in a mini-tournament where the young golfers can showcase what they’ve learned in a competitive environment.
Robert Mugabe, captain of Tooro Golf Club, welcomed the initiative.
“This camp is a major boost for youth golf in Uganda. Coach Corsaletti brings world-class experience, and our juniors are gaining not just skills, but inspiration. We truly appreciate his commitment to developing the game here.”
