FUFA Names Khalifan U17 Women Team Coach

COSAFA Women’s U17 Championship

FUFA has confirmed the appointment of Kawempe Muslim SS Women Football Team coach Ayub Khalifan as the head coach of National Women U17 football team that is due to take part in the COSAFA U17 Championship that is scheduled for September 20-29 in Mauritius.

This is the first Uganda U17 women national team to be assembled in the history of Ugandan football. FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo confirmed the appointment during the FUFA Women Football Symposium at Kabira Country Club in Kampala on Wednesday.

Namuyanja Hadijah will serve as the assistant head coach while Olive Mbekeka is the team trainer. Moses Oloya is named as the goalkeeping coach. Nansikombi Stellah who works at Ntinda United is the Medical personnel, Joan Namusisi-Team Coordinator while Alex Kasirye is the Media Officer.

The tournament is composed of countries that make-up COSAFA. As a guest team, Uganda will compete with seven other teams including; Mauritius, South Africa, Zambia, Madagascar, Comoros, Botswana and Seychelles.

The teams are placed in four different groups, according to the draws held on Wednesday in Mauritius. Uganda is in group A with hosts Mauritius, Zambia and Comoros. “I feel honored to be appointed head coach of the women U17 national team. It’s not a simple task but I am ready to serve the game,” said Khalifan, who has been handling women football since 2000 and won almost every trophy at different levels in Uganda and East Africa. It’s the first national team appointment for the four-time FUFA Women Elite League winner Ayub Khalifah.

The appointment comes on the back of his glorious moment when he recently won the East African Secondary Schools girls’ title (FEASSSA Games) in Arusha as the head coach for Kawempe Muslim SS Girls football team.
