FUFA top leadership will on Wednesday mid-morning sit in an emergency meeting to deliberate on the Uganda Cranes players’ alleged strike over bonus payments at the ongoing Afcon 2019 in Egypt.

The Cranes were supposed to conduct training at the Arab Contractors stadium on Tuesday but they never showed up to the disappointment of the media that was waiting.

According to reports from Cairo, the training was called off as the players demanded payment of their bonus arrears amounting to $6000.

FUFA 2nd Vice President Darius Mugoye, President Eng. Moses Magogo and CEO Edgar Watson

A win for Cranes at Afcon collects $4000 while a draw goes for $2000. The Sebastien Desabre side beat two-time champions DRC and drew against Zimbabwe before losing to hosts and record 7-time winners in the last Group A fixture to set a date with continent’s highest ranked side Senegal at the last 16 on Friday at the Cairo international stadium.

“The Fufa top leadership led by President Eng. Moses Magogo will sit around 11am on Wednesday to forge way forward,” noted a source at the federation.

Last 16 teams confirmed

The Afcon 2019 group stage was concluded on Tuesday and 16 teams made it through to the next stage.

The main highlight was South Africa’s progress as fourth team among the best third-placed countries, with others being Benin, DR Congo and Guinea.

South Africa, who face Egypt progressed after Mali 1-0 win over Angola in the final group F game which left Angola eliminated albeit a draw being enough for them to progress.
