Kampala Queens FC registered their first victory of the 2025/2026 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League season with a hard-fought 2–1 comeback win over Makerere University WFC over the weekend at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
Captain Josephine Ndagire gave Makerere University an early lead just three minutes into the game, but goals from substitute Joanita Ainembabazi and winger Kamiyat Naigaga turned the tables for the defending champions.
The visitors started brightly and were rewarded when Ndagire rose highest to nod home from a Hasifa Nambozo free kick, leaving Kampala Queens goalkeeper Sharon Kaidu rooted to her line. The goal was reminiscent of the one Asia Nakibuuka scored against the Queens in their previous match.
Despite conceding early, Kampala Queens regained control of possession and created several clear chances. However, forwards Shamusa Najjuma and debutant Square Maiwase squandered good opportunities before the half-hour mark.
Head coach Firew Asefa made a tactical change in the 35th minute, introducing Ainembabazi for Maiwase — a move that would later prove decisive. The substitute injected fresh energy into the attack as the hosts pushed for an equaliser, though Makerere University held firm to take a 1–0 lead into halftime.
The defending champions resumed the second half with renewed purpose, and within four minutes, Ainembabazi justified her introduction with a well-timed header to level the score. Midfielder Catherine Nagadya played a key role in orchestrating the Queens’ attacks as they continued to pile pressure on the visitors.
Their relentless effort finally paid off deep into stoppage time when Kamiyat Naigaga used her pace and strength to beat defender Winnie Nakanwagi before firing a thunderous strike past goalkeeper Grace Nassande. The late goal not only sealed all three points for the champions but also earned Naigaga the Finance Trust Bank Woman of the Match award.
The victory lifts Kampala Queens to four points from two matches, while Makerere University remain on one point after two outings.
In other results, Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC secured a 3–1 comeback victory over Olila High School FC at Olila Grounds in Soroti. Brenda Atwani had put the hosts ahead early in the second half, but goals from Shadia Nabirye, captain Agnes Nabukenya, and new signing Latifa Nakasi — her first for the club — completed the turnaround. The win marked Kawempe’s first away triumph over Olila in the past three seasons, sending a strong signal of intent early in the campaign.
At Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso, Rines SS WFC were held to a goalless draw by Asubo Gafford Ladies FC. Rines forward Nakato Nakyanzi missed a late penalty that could have given the hosts maximum points. Nevertheless, the result was a morale boost for Asubo, who were coming off a 5–0 loss in their season opener. Rines youngster Dorcus Edith Nantaba, recently promoted from the feeder school team, was named Finance Trust Bank Woman of the Match for her outstanding performance.
