The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has officially flagged off a nationwide tour for the new FUFA Women Super League trophy under the theme “A Trophy with a Soul: Seeking Your Blessing for Uganda’s Football Daughters.”
The initiative is part of efforts to promote women’s football, foster unity, and rally public support for the sport’s growth in Uganda.
Led by FUFA’s 3rd Vice President Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi and FUFA Deputy Executive Secretary for Competitions Rogers Mulindwa, the tour will celebrate the achievements of past league champions while highlighting the potential of women’s football in Uganda.
The travelling team includes five outstanding players who have previously won the league and are still active. These include Catherine Nakiridde (UCU Lady Cardinals, 2018/19), Lydia Nyandera (Lady Doves, 2020), Aminah Nakato (She Corporate, 2021/22), Zaina Namuleme (formerly with Kampala, now at Makerere University Women FC, 2022/23), and Krusum Namutebi (Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC). The players will share firsthand perspectives on the importance of developing the women’s game.
The tour will also involve visits to prominent and influential Ugandan women, serving as an opportunity to present FUFA’s women football projects and initiatives. CAF-trained safety and security officer Harriet Nakimbugwe will oversee the trophy’s stewardship and security during the journey.
“This trophy is not just a reward; it is a celebration of the spirit and brilliance of women in football,” said Hon. Nakiwala Kiyingi. “As we raise this emblem of achievement, we also raise our commitment to the growth of the women’s game in Uganda.”
The trophy tour begins today, May 15, 2025, with stops at MTN Uganda, Nation Media Group, and Vision Group. FUFA hopes the visibility will inspire more girls and women to embrace football, develop their talent, and become role models.
The new FUFA Women Super League trophy is a symbol of strength, elegance, and excellence. Standing at 455mm and gold-coated, the trophy features a figurine of a woman lifting a ball above her head—a striking representation of victory, ambition, and the rising spirit of women’s football in Uganda.
The 2024/25 FUFA Women Super League champions, sponsored by Finance Trust Bank, will be awarded this trophy at the season’s close.
