The Uganda Rugby Union has announced a change in venue for Game Day Two of the Rugby Africa Cup 2024.
Originally scheduled to take place at the Mutesa II Royal Stadium in Wankulukuku on Wednesday , July 24, the matches will now be held at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole due to unavoidable circumstances. The same venue hosted the tournament opener last weekend.
Despite the change in location, all other aspects of the tournament remain unchanged. The match schedule will proceed as planned, with teams from various countries competing at their previously designated times.
The updated schedule is as follows:
- 10:00 AM: Senegal vs. Ivory Coast
- 12:00 PM: Uganda vs. Burkina Faso
- 2:00 PM: Kenya vs. Algeria
- 4:00 PM: Zimbabwe vs. Namibia
In the opening round (quarterfinals) held last weekend, Zimbabwe edged out hosts Uganda 22-20 despite Philip Wokorach’s efforts. Kenya triumphed over Senegal 36-17, Namibia dominated Burkina Faso 38-5, and Algeria defeated Ivory Coast 32-12.
The Wednesday action will see the semi-finals and placement semi-finals take place . The winners in the opening round will play in the main cup semis and are the only ones eligible to lift the title while the losers while play only placement fixtures.
The tournament will wrap up with what promises to be an exciting finale at Namboole on Sunday, July 28 at 4pm, after the earlier matches for 7th, 5th, and 3rd place.
Namibia, who beat Kenya in last year’s final, have lifted the Rugby Africa Cup a record nine times, while South Africa have won three titles. Kenya and Morocco have also lifted the Cup twice, while Uganda and Zimbabwe have each won the Cup once.
