On Saturday, amidst great anticipation, Soroti City Academy marked a pivotal moment with a groundbreaking press conference led by Development Manager Uganda Cricket Association, Davis Turinawe, announcing that Soroti Cricket Academy will host the Girl’s Schools Cricket week for the second consecutive year.
Last year, the academy made waves by hosting the Girls Schools Cricket Week, the first time it happened out side Kampala culminating in an electrifying final where Olila High School emerged victorious against Light Senior Secondary School.
Excitingly, Uganda Cricket Association has expanded the tournament, welcoming two more schools, bringing the total number of participating schools increase from 14 to 16. Turinawe is currently strategizing to develop criteria for the selection or distribution of the additional two schools across different regions.
Scheduled to take place from the 4th to the 11th of May 2024 at St. Mary’s Girls School in Madera, preparations are already underway, with ground preparations in full swing.
Additionally, a girls’ schools league will bowl off in March, serving as a qualifier for the national tournament. To ensure widespread access, some tournament games will be live-streamed, enabling fans from afar to follow the action closely.
Soroti Cricket Academy Chairman Felix Musana expressed his delight at this new milestone, pledging to surpass the success of last year’s event. “We are honored to host the Girls’ Schools Cricket event for the second consecutive year. Building on last year’s achievements, we are committed to delivering an even more exceptional experience,” remarked Musana.
Representatives from participating schools echoed the sentiment, assuring the media of their readiness for an exhilarating tournament in May. With anticipation building and preparations in full swing, Soroti Cricket Academy is poised to deliver another memorable event, showcasing the exciting talent and passion for cricket among Uganda’s youth.
